was my great great grandmother addopted .

hello, i have a mary ann cave born in sommersett i think wincanton area no one in my family know much about her apart from thay said she was addopted  born roughly 1870s i have info  she married lewis whiteheadfrom chatham in kent then my great grandmother was born 1900 her name was caroline alice whitehead. can anyone find her for me sorry i have no more info ;)liz

Do you have her birth certificate, this looks likely.

You will find her on the 1881 census which you can search yourself for free at

Birthplace is Blackford

hi thankyou , no i do not have any birth cert for this lady just info from what relatives have told me, it does sound like it couled be her as my greatgrandmother caroline alice did live in london most of her life :)

If you check the 1881 census you will find a stepson surname Grish

John Cave married Mary Grish/Grist in 1869 in Wincanton so no question of daughter Mary Ann being adopted as she was not born until 1872

hi, thank you all, o so she was not addopted, may be my family heard something simmular, unless maybe it couled have been the stepson thay was talking about and as it went down through the family got mixed up and thought it was mary ann and thought she was addoped, i did see a marriedge for john and mary grish , so mary had a chlid before she married john , :)
