not used to Scottish records

I have a John Brodie who died 21 Nov 1831, Northgate, Peebles married to Joan Russell b. 04 May 1769, m. 03 May 1783, d. 22 Dec 1829, Northgage, Peebles.

While I think John's father is also named John, I can't find John's birth on Scotland's People. John Brodie was a blacksmith in 1788 in Temple Bar, Peebles.

I would appreciate advice on where to turn next? Are there records online other than Scotland's People and the IGI census records?
