richard strike died in Leeds aged 32 in 1932.
« on: Thursday 28 January 10 08:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi all
Am attempting a difficult one . Trying to find extra info on a richard strike who was born in houghton county durham in 1900 to parents unknown but married a lilian smith in 1922 in Leeds and then died himself in Leeds in 1932 aged 32. Apparently the death was suspicious , maybe a poisoning??? Not sure about that one till death certificate comes through. Can anyone out there find any info on this man or his family . I know this is a hard one-sorry. Think he and lilian had three or four children, doreen, rose, arthur and richard .

Frankieb,

I think that I may have found the details of when and where both Richard and Lilian are buried.  No details are given as to cause of death.

If you do not already have this information and would like the details, let me know and I will post them for you.

Best Wishes

thanks cjl-i would love this info if you have it. I am doing it for a lady who's grandfather is richard strike. She told me she will send off for the death certificate so until then i thought id call on you brilliant roots chatters to do a bit of digging. I have Strike ancestors but mine are from cornwall so it was a strange coincidence when this lady came up enquiring about Strikes-i could not resist but get involved even though they are not really my Strikes-well not yet anyway. She is going to get Lilian and Richards marriage certificate too and maybe both lilian and richards death certificate-then she will know for sure what each died of. All the children were adopted out or put into childrens homes so it is a sad story anyway. Think thats why i wanted to help as she has no photos of any of her family or grandparents. Thanks for all your help on here-you are amazing. I will tell her where i got my info from too-she has no computer herself but will say how good you all are.

ps i work in a library and i was sitting in the reference /community history when this lady appeared-coincidences like this happen all the time. I told her that Strike is possibly a cornish name and she was surprised-as she thought all her family was from yorkshire. Then it turns out henry was from devon area anyway. Cant find his christening though or birth on the things i have available. Found one in 1853 in tavistock-he could be a possibility??

Thanks cjl-that sounds like a paupers grave then??? Maybe the theory that he was a doctor is completely wrong then. Unless he was some kind of quack??? The lady was under impression he was a doctor-well i suppose she will find out if she gets the death certificate.
thanks again.
Have told her she might be best to travel to leeds if she gets some interesting info from the death cert.-because maybe something will be in the papers if it is a poisoning or somehting like that??
many thanks
frankie

Frankieb,

You are most welcome.  Just a thought, might it be worth contacting the local paper?  If Richard's death was due to poisoning there might have been an article in the newspaper at the time.  I do know that the current main Leeds newspaper is the Yorkshire Evening Post, although I am not certain in which year it was founded.

Frankieb.

It might be worth taking a look at this web site www.harehillstoday.co.uk  there is a section entitled Harehills Family History and you are able to e mail requesting help tracing your family history.  Might be a long shot but nothing to loose by e mailing them.

Please let me know how you get on.

Best Wishes
