Hi all and thanks for your replies. Yes he named my grandfather after himself. I have now looked at the 1911 census but it wasn't too much help. On it he is no longer a soldier but a general labourer for tamworth district council so it seems he was discharged between 1908 and 1911.

Yes Ken he dofe went to India i remember my dad telling me that he was a drummerboy in india. I don't remember my dad saying he fought in ww1 and he is no longer around for me to find out so i'm not sure if they would be his papers.

Im sorry i have so little info for you all to work on but am grateful for any bit of info. Thanks Ady for offer to ask your frien.

He is mentioned in Fishers History of the West Riding Regiment( published in 1917) ..as a POW he was at Friedrichsfeld
i have a medal to 6812 Pte Brayshaw from Sowerby Bridge Halifax he was a POW same time from 2nd Dukes may even have known each other!! He joined up in 01 and was on Reserve recalled in 1914 they returned to barracks in Dublin before going to Flanders then fighting at Mons in 1914.

Thank you all so much for your help, i have looked at papers on ancestry and they are defo my g grandads papers. I have found out quite alot about him which is fantastic as i didn't realy know anything, i couldn't have done it without my rootschat friends.
