Hello Walter,
Welcome to Rootschat!

Most of my REVANS & HISKEY research comes from the parishes of Elmsett & Aldham. I am not directly descended from either family, but have gathered a lot of information on them in my research into my Elmsett ancestors (see below). If you have a subscription to Ancestry you can find all my Elmsett research on there. Just search for either name.

However, if you do not have access to that website, then I really need you to be more specific in your enquiry.
I do have a REVANS/HISKEY marriage in my database - that of Charles King REVANS & Flora Eliza HISKEY in Elmsett on 4 May 1889. If these are your ancestors then I have the REVANS line back to Robert REVANS & Sarah CHEESE who married in Hadleigh in 1773. I have the HISKEY line back to John HISKEY & Mary BRAGG who married in Elmsett in 1805. Please note that I have not gone back any further as it is solely Elmsett & Aldham parishes that interest me and not these specific family lines.
What is it you are looking for? If it concerns these parishes then I may be able to help.
Best wishes,
Kevin

Charles King was my great Grandfather.  During today I've found Thomas Hiskey
b.1817 married to Sarah with son Thomas b.1850.  Do John Hiskey and Mary Bragg connect with them?  I've got back to 1530 with Revans ans Saxtead, so I'm OK on that.

Hello Kevin once more. I'm glad to keep in touch. What a lot of intermingled families there are: Revans, Hickley, Mowers, Chittock, Leeks, Keeble, Gant, Barber, Vince, etc. etc.!

Walter: very pleased to come across a distant relative. We both trace our ancestry to Robert Revans (1734-1803), but my line stems from from his first wife Sarah Chittock, not from Sarah Cheese, as yours does. You mention you have traced the Revans line back to 1530, roughly the same as my findings. I list mine to see if they coincide (I give only the direct line, passing over the many collateral branches):

1.  William, b. c 1500, d. 1552 Kettleburgh; wife Elizabeth, b.1505, m. c 1525, d. 1558; they held tenements at Saxtead Manor
2.  Robert, b. 1529, d. 6 Feb 1617 Saxtead (his will is at Ipswich RO); = Bridget Flick 18 Oct 1568 Earl Soham
3.  Humphrey, b. 6 Sep 1583 Kettleburgh, d.1649 Saxtead (also will at Ipswich RO); = Joanna Stowers 1 Oct 1610 Saxtead, d.1671
4. Robert, b. 4 Sep 1611 Kettleburgh, d. 6 Apr 1667 Saxtead; = Margaret Thingoe 6 Jun 1636 Worlingworth
5. Robert, b. 19 Dec 1639 Saxtead, d.1697; = Hannah 22 Dec 1671
6. John, b. 15 Jun 1671 Saxtead, d. 12 Apr 1709 Debenham; = Mary Woods 15 Jun 1691. b. Saxtead, d. 1724 Debenham
7. Thomas, b. c 1700; = Susan Killett 4 Oct 1725 Mickfield
8. Robert, b. 1734, d. 7 Jan 1803 Aldham; =(1) Sarah Chittock 30 Oct 1763 Debenham; d. 23 Apr 1772 Aldham
= (2) Sarah Cheese 5 Oct 1773 Hadleigh; b. 5 Oct 1750, d. 16 Jul 1820 Aldham

[my line continues]:
9. Robert, b. 16 Dec 1764 Aldham, d. 16 Sep 1842; = Susan Steggal, 13 Oct 1786 Wetheringsett-cum-Brockford; b. c 1765 Brockford;
10.James, b. 1786 Barham, d. 2 Dec 1872 Bosmere; = Mary Gant 22 Nov 1813 Little Blakenham. b.9 Jan 1792, ditto; d.4 Mar 1886 Whitton.
11 Aaron, b. 3 Nov 1829, d. 15 Jan 1903 ---my g grandfather: I'll stop here.

I hope this stuff is of someinterest to you.

Best wishes,
Geoffrey Ribbans

Hi Kevin,

You seem to be a great fountain of knowledge when it comes to the families of the cosford district  :) I've managed to trace my ancestors back to John Cosins marriage to Susannah Smith in Elmsett 1771 sadly thats as far as I can get back though. Although the marriage reads as though John was living in Elmsett at the time, there is no baptism for him there.  The records office had a look at the poor law registers for me but no such luck.  There is a sugestion of him being from Whatfield but nothing can be proven.  If you ever find him floating about anywhere let me know  ;D

Hello Joanne,

I'm a long way from being a "Fountain of knowledge" on the Cosford district. That title will ever be held by the late, great Ray Long. But thank you for your kind thoughts anyway ;)

I have researched many of the families of Elmsett & Aldham in the process of tracing my direct ancestors from those parishes (GANT, LEEKS, MEADOWS, DANIELS, PERCY, HOLDER, ARCHER, SMITH). To try and make sense of the inter marriages between families I have also gathered quite a lot of info on other families. My extended tree can be found on A******* under Scott/Miller.

I do have some information on the COUSINS family, but I'm afraid that I do not have the answer to your query. There were of course, quite a lot of Elmsett/Whatfield links and I there were definitely COUSINS family in Whatfield.
I do have a note of Susanna SMITH, daughter of Philip SMITH & Susanna BETTS. She was christened in Elmsett on 14 May 1738. A possibility for your Susanna ??
I have found my Elmsett/Aldham SMITH family almost impossible to trace with certainty back in the 18th century. When Smiths marry Smiths and have children who marry Smiths, it makes you tear your hair out trying to wrk out who is who  ???

Best wishes,
Kevin
