Now - do you think it likely that 14C and 14D were "engagement pictures" ?

For 14C just MIGHT be a certain Henry Cecil Fellowes, who was married on 14th April 1875....

Could it be a chap born in Beighton Norfolk in 1851 named Henry Cecil Fellowes who later became the Reverend of the same parish ... that is ...According to a directories for 1879 and 1883 and 1888 and the same chap, the Rev Henry Cecil Fellowes M A  was a Councillor for Codicote on Hertfordshire County Council in 1890 He  would have been 22 when that photo was taken... Looks about right age to me ...??
Did you mean the lady in pic 14b as the possible engaged  lady ?

The pic of Henry was taken in Birmingham ....and  a Henry C Fellowes played cricket for Staffordshire in 1875 it seems ... Now I'm of to see if he was in the Royal Navy too  .... seeing as he played cricket for them !!  ;D

Yes...I'd pick 14b as his potential mate too but it's 14d that says April 1874 on it :P :D

I think the lady in d is way too old...and her hairstyle went out of fashion in about 1865. No young lady of the time would likely be caught dead wearing such an outmoded hair or dress style for such an important occasion as having a portrait done. The latest style was a statement of social status.

I suppose it really could be his mother...perhaps they exchanged photos...

Cheers,
China

Re-assembling the page roughly...

I would have thought perhaps they were two pairs, two couples ?

That A & B went together ?

C & D bear the same date, though C was taken in Birmingham and D in Liverpool.

Perhaps NO connection between them at all, save both known to the Album's owner !

WHY didn't she write it down !

She maybe just placed them in the Album  in  the order that she received them ..  ::)

Hi-
I've just come in on this thread.
(I might be putting my foot in it by stating the obvious;)
Polly, you've 'isolated' the signature, which I think makes it a doddle.

To me, the signature (reasonably) almost certainly reads -
'Henry Cecil Fellowes'.
ie. The guy you have just named. And, yes, his 'e's are different every time he makes one.
Let me down gently if I'm being a twerp, Poll.

Yes, I also think it's Henry Cecil Fellowes and on 2nd Feb did a similar "isolation" of the signature on a separate thread:  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,434563.msg2987863.html#msg2987863

...but it seemed on that thread that Robin was still not convinced that we had the name correct.  I'm pretty certain we have it, though.

Well, I *am* pretty convinced - I suggested it (after lots of hints - your "Henry Cecil" and  "Fellows" (sic) from DudleyWinchurch) !  See that thread again.

Thank you, everybody, for your help - it's much appreciated.
