1957 occupier's name
« on: Monday 01 February 10 19:27 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if there is a way of finding out the family name for an address in Beaulieu in 1957.  My mother worked there and left as an unmarried mother to have me.  All I know about my father is that he died of bowel cancer in the 1960's, but I wonder if he may have been the head of the household or a son at the place where she was working.

Your best bet is the electoral register of the period, a search on the address will tell you who was living there and was eligible to vote at that time.

The registers are often held at the nearest main library, but if you contact the local authority they should be able to tell you where they are held.

You could also try going to the local Library and see if they have a Kellys directory.  These gave out information on who own the houses and who were the tenants.  Do you have the name of the house in which your mother worked.

I worked in a Water company in the 70's and we used to use Kellys all the time.  They give out quite a bit of information.

Hello Marcie,  Thanks for your suggestion. The address was 'Woodside' at Hilltop in Beaulieu.  Deoxy  :)

Hello Marcie,  No I'm not local to the area. I'm in Portsmouth.  I don't suppose there's any other way of accessing them is there?  Thanks,  Deoxy

i assume its ok to post a link here that might help, the Kelly's street directories have an occupiers section as well.
