Hi boniface  :)

Welcome to Rootschat  :D

I'm guessing you've seen this article which mentions your uncle:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connaught_Rangers

There is also plenty more on the web about James Daly and the mutiny of 1820.  The Wikipedia article mentions a memorial set up in Glasnevin cemetery to him and two of the others whose remains were repatriated there in 1970.

Have you contacted the cemetery authorities?

Cheers
Prue

Added:  here is his headstone:  http://nga.ie/james_daly.htm
And about halfway down this page is a photo of James:  http://country-standard.blogspot.com/search/label/James%20Daly

Hi Prue, Thanks for your email, and yes I have seen a picture of the grave but unfortunately cannot understand what is written on it.   I would love to find my relatives over in Ireland but I dont know that much about the family tree except for James Daly from tales my grandma told us. I really would not know where to start. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks for getting in touch any other info would be grateful.

If you want to get a translation of the headstone maybe someone on the Ireland board would be able to help ...unfortunatly my Irish is only good enough to translate a few of the words...

there's a clearer photo of the Connaught Rangers memorial in Glasnevin at this link : http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a5/Mutiny_India_1920.JPG

Hi boniface,

If you post a message on the general Ireland board here:

I'm sure someone will be able to translate for you  :)
