Hi Sloe
Yes I saw the Ancestry fix perhaps why they were down for 4hrs this morning?

That one you have found could be a good bet I shall have a look but right now I am under orders to be sociable - I hope the soaps have finished on TV !!
Thanks
Nigel

He won't have been that young.   As Nigel said, he went to France in 1914, so he would certainly have been a pre-war regular soldier.

You might try posting on the Great War Forum - someone may well be able to work out a rough date of enlistment from his number.  You need a Wiltshire Regiment expert!

The Wiltshires war diaries are online here

Thanks for your suggestions folks. I am fairly happy he was born in Inkpen, joined in Swindon so I need to try to get his enlistment date as you suggest Sloe
Thanks
Nigel

Oh my goodness what a wonderful close to a search that has gone on for about 8 yrs. I am not related to him but at least I now know who it was whose head stone I found in the cemetery. I am also pleased in a bizarre way that my previous summation of what happened was almost right and he died at least after some care in the German Field Hospital.
What a lovely tribute that you will remember him on 2 Jan  2015.

Thank you very much

Nigel

Fantastic piece on the web site and the book looks great by the way - I have done similar for over a 100 family members who served in various wars etc.
Well done and again thank you so much for solving my puzzle.
I cannot add a photo of Henry's head stone in here for some bizarre reason.
 Thanks
Nigel

Hi Nigel, just wondering whether you were the originator of an article about the Bint brothers in the Evening Advertiser dated 7th June 2005? (Before I spend £5 on a digital copy of the article!)
