Electoral rolls
« on: Friday 05 February 10 14:49 GMT (UK) »
;)Can anyone tell us how to access the Electoral rolls on the Internet.
I have been trying to find out about my wife's Grandmother.
???Tried the 1911 census for Lancashire including the address but no returns for the house.
:)I thought try the Electoral rolls which brings me to my question.
;)How do you get on to them?
Someone tells where to go?
Thank you

Online Electoral Rolls only started from 2002 - nothing earlier

Electoral registers prior to then  can be searched at the local records office but are address specific

If the address you are looking for came from a marriage cert - many people gave fictitious addresses or "convenience" addresses to enable them to marry in a particular church in a particular area outside their own parish

This is an extract from the above website and availability is sparse - there are actually only 9 individual years available online between 1912-1955  1918 is the absent voters list

Quote
The latest additions to the web-site are a number of indexed Birmingham Electoral Rolls. Completed so far are 1912, 1918 (Absent voters), 1920, 1925, 1930, 1935, 1939, 1945, 1950 & 1955. These can all be searched by name, by address or both. You can even look for two people living at the same address - useful if you are researching a common surname.
