Alexander and Janet Cowie

I am trying to seek information on my great-great-great-great-grandparents, Alexander Cowie and Janet Murray. They married 31/10/1833 in Rathven and had the following children:
Mary 26/1/1834-27/3/1912 married nobody
Jane 1836
John 1839
William 1844-11/9/1912 married Anne Coull 1844-24/2/1909
I have tracked them in the censuses. They are in the 1841 to 1871 censuses, but not in the 1881 census onwards. They were obviously gone by then.
The problem is, I have looked in the records and there have been no trace of them. I am sure they died in Scotland, as in all of the previous censuses they are in Rathven. I would be grateful to anyone who could find them in the records. I don't have there full births. All I know is that on ancestry, it says they were born about 1804-1808. Around that area anyway

Hi,

What district were they living in in 1871? And roughly what year was Janet born in?

I did a quick search on Scotlandspeople for the death of a Janet Cowie, other surnames Murray between 1871 and 1881 in Banffshire and there were 4 matches. If one of these is your Janet you would get both her parents names and would find out if she was down as a widow at the time of her death..thus narrowing down your search for Alexander.

Hi again, sorry just noticed you put the rough year they were born.

All 4 Janet Cowie/Murrays I mentioned above died in Rathven

These are the years and the ages

1878 aged 68

1879 aged 63

1880 aged 80

1881 aged 75

These could either be Janet Murray who married a Cowie or vica versa and as you know ages are not always accurate, but I would say the first and the last one would be worth looking at first as they fit your birth years the closest.

I found that the 75 and 68 year olds were not the Janet Murray I am searching for. I am unsure if the other ones are though, I will need to check.
They definetely died in Rathven though, as they were in all of the previous censuses.

Hi,

Ages can be way out on death certificates..I have some that looked at as a last resort and it turned out they were the right ones..just age was wrong.

Thanks. I don't understand how I can't find her though. I have even tried on All Districts, and I have had no success. They defenitely died in Scotland.

Well I am unable to spend money on the credits for the website online so I go by the free 10 credit deal and at the moment I've used it up for the day, so I have only been able to search two of them on the website.

Was Alexander a fisherman? And does Seatown , Buckie, parish of Rathven mean anything?
