1901 look up please

I am looking for the whereabouts of my grandfather in 1901.  The family were living in Leeds but he is not listed with them, so I wonder if he was working away in another part of the UK.
Harry Barnsdale Pickersgill, born 1879 in Cape Town, (but resident in UK since 1882)
Any help would be appreciated.

He could have been in South Africa in the Boer War.

Thanks for your interest - but I know he returned to the UK in 1882 as a 3 year old boy and remained in UK until his death.    Jazgran.
