my mother was susana o'kane.(roshie) my uncle dan , her brother was married to mary higgins.and my uncle william was married to mary higgins (aunt of uncle dans wife.) my sister helen brizzel lives just outside kilrea.i grew uo spending summers in the glen.i live in secaucus nj.it is on the border of new york, about 12 minutes from times square.where do you live?will be interesting to find out if we are related.

Welcome to Rootschat. I'm not related to your O'Kanes but do have lots of local sources. Do you know what townland in the Glen your family lived in (much of my material is by place rather than just surname)?

my mothers family were from outside garvagh. (glenullin)we called thier home "the house on the corner" it was/is to the right of the r.c. church on the corner.

Irish 'address' before we had road names was the townland and this is the place that will be listed on birth certificates, census records, land records, etc. The Chapel is in the townland of Brockagh so I'll have a look there. Do you know the names of Susanna O'Kane's parents?

susanna o'kanes parents were, ellen mullan and james o'kane.married july 14th 1904.i have no more information on them.

I maintain a database of families of the Gen. My Dillons were from Brockaghboy. Your James "Rosha" O'Kane, born 11 Jan 1875 in Brockaghboy, and father of Susanna was the son of Bernard R. O'Kane, b. abt 1830 and Mary Woods, b. abt 1837. Bernard died 29 Nov 1897 in B.B. Mary Wood might have been from Boleran. It is possible that Bernard's father might have been named Donald O'Kane, died 1871-1872, from info I found in Lord Garvagh's Estate records.
