Poor ancestors where to find graves
« on: Thursday 11 February 10 20:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have no idea on where to start with this.  I have found two ancestors who had spent a good part of there lifes in the poorhouse.  The first was in Barnhall in Glasgow he died there in the 1950's when it had change to a old peoples place and was called Foresthall hospital the other also died at 15 Craw road Paisley i have read that this was either a asylum or poorhouse maybe both.  He also died in the 50's when i think it was more of a hospital i know thre family had disowned them and i was wondering what happened to people who died in thes places did the hospitals bury them or just cremate them all.

Thanks
Louise

If they had no living family then often the workhouse/hospital paid for the burial. And even some family members allowed the workhouse to pay for the burial.
