lm a little stuck
« on: Saturday 13 February 10 00:46 GMT (UK) »
Hello all, My Great Great Grandmother was born in Woodnesborough, Summerfields, Kent: on 16th June 1881: her name being Eliza: on her birth certificate it states that her Father was William Attkins, Her Mother as Jane Attkins formerly Davidson. The reason l am a little stuck is that on her marriage certificate it states that she was a spinster and married Frederick James Burden on the 1st November 1913, as Eliza Fasoms. The only other information I have is that she was still living at Summerfields Woodnesborough on the day of her marriage, on the 1871 census the family name was Fassoms and in 1891 Eliza was named as a Fassom. Hoping someone can help solve this puzzle please. Maz

Thank you perth tiger.
I have both certificates, the marriage  is an original, but the birth is a certified copy dated 27 August 1947. I was given them by my Auntie after my Nan passed as I had started the family tree. I'm wondering if the register office have got it wrong on the copy. Maz

have you searched for eliza just using the info on the marriage cert? i assume that these details all check out from the marriage forward to the present.
did your aunt tell you anything about the different names, are they names that are known in the family.

HI

The weird thing too is that William Fasoms bn circa 1835 who is shown as Eliza's father on the family census sheet married Jane Fasoms nee as William Atkins in Dec 1861 but on census he is shown as Fasoms (inc varients).

A Jane H Burden was born in Eastry in Jun 1916 with a mothers maiden name of Fasoms ref 2a 2079.

So she certainly seems to have discarded her original name for som reason?

have any of you found eliza in 1911? i had a look and found her parents but no sign of eliza.
the other thought i had, and i would need to renew my subs to ancestry to look through the census. going by the ages of eliza's parents in 1911 her mother would have been 45 when she was born. while not unusual could she be william and jane's grandaughter and brought up as one of there own
