And there is this marriage, which if it is them, takes you to another part of the UK altogether!

Mar 1904
N. Forest 2b/1045

James Hurley
Jessie Ellen Blake

The fact that she is Jessie Ellen makes it more likely that these are your Jessie's parents, though no guarantees yet.

I have just checked the birth registration of some of the other children and Doris May was registered in the New Forest area so I think the marriage registration, in my earlier post, is the right one.

You say that Jessie died in Hampshire and it looks as if that's where the family came from before moving to Wales.

I'll have a look at 1901 to see if I can find James.

I have checked 1891 and 1901 for Jessie, in Hampshire but there isn't an obvious contender in either. There are Blake families and there are daughters called Jessie but none of them seem to fit with her date of birth. There is an Ellen Blake who might be her but I think the only way of being sure who her parents were is to get the birth certificate from the reference which Jackie has given.

It seems from 1911 that James Hurley was born in Monmouthshire and again, I have looked in 1901 but the only one I could see is a bit too young to be yours. I haven't checked earlier censuses for him yet, so will do that and get back to you if I find him.

There is a birth record for a James Hurley in 1880 and a corresponding entry in the 1881 census.

Birth:
Jun 1880. Pontypool 11a/133
James Hurley

1881 Census. Trevethin
Michael Hurley, 30, labourer Ironworks, born - Ireland
Hannah, 25, Ireland
Bridget, 5, Trevethin
Catherine, 3  "
James, 1       "
Catherine Little, 70, Wid, Mother, Annuitant, Ireland

This looks like a possible family for you but again, your best bet would be to send for James and Jessie's marriage certificate which should give their father's names and occupations, from where you will be able to trace the families further back.
