Kelly - Mullingar
« on: Sunday 14 February 10 15:04 GMT (UK) »
When Joseph Kelly said in the E&W 1911 census that he was from Mullingar, Ireland, can I presume he meant the town or could this relate to a much larger area?  Kit

I'd say it's more likely he meant the town of Mullingar. There is a registration district of the same name which also includes some surrounding townlands and towns, but I dont think people generally list a district as place of birth.

Thanks for taking the time out to list the Kelly's in Mullingar in 1901.  Can I ask what the resource is that you have used?  Is Mullingar Roots 1901 an online resource?

I know that Joseph's father was deceased by his marriage in 1895, Lancashire.  He states that his father is Thomas, Chemical Labourer.

I think that I should set out a new post with the findings of the 1901 and 1911 E&W census as there is a child, Catherine, who appears in the 1901 but not the 1911 who I think may have been passed the name of Joseph's mother.  Maybe new eyes on that might help.

Hi Kit,

No, not available online, a book that must be purchased. It only gives the families, but ages or family ties.

Hi,

Just found this thread and I was wondering if there is anyone on here who would be able to help me at all. I am trying to trace my Mother's family tree. We do have some information but not a lot. Her father was Michael Joseph Kelly born 1931, we know he is 1 of 20 children and that his parents were called Michael and Margaret Kelly. Other than that we don't have much more information and I have tried various sites. I would really appreciate any tips or advice on where to look for more information. Thanks

I am unsure if he is connected to this Kelly family. He died in July 1972, I am new to all this type of thing and when I found this post I thought it was worth asking as it looked like there is a lot of info regarding Kelly family’s from Mullingar
