Marconi and his team also tested radio communications between the east lighthouse on Rathlin Island
and the "White Lodge" at the harbour at Ballycastle, Co. Antrim http://www.northantrim.com/Marconi.htm

There's an article on the Wikipedia website about Radio Telefís Éireann. The radio service began on 1st January, 1926, while regular television broadcasts began on 31st December, 1961 with a New Year's Eve live broadcast from the Gresham Hotel, Dublin.  When the station opened it was known as 2RN. Seamus Clandillon, the 2RN station director, was the first person to speak from the station when it was being tested on 14th November 1925. Other people mentioned in the article are Eamonn Andrews, Brendan Balfe and Larry Gogan.

A list of Irish newspapers
« Reply #4 on: Thursday 10 January 08 11:48 GMT (UK) »
There are occasions when people need to post a query relating to their search to the Editor of a newspaper in the hope someone will read their letter and post a reply. Sometime the results of these queries produce a good response ... much like the response that one gets on the internet it doesn't always happen but it is another route to follow in the search for elusive ancestors or possible living descendents.

The list below covers Ireland's national daily and Sunday papers. Have a look at the county where your ancestors may have lived whilst in Ireland for local papers.

The Irish Independent
The Irish Times

The above list of newspapers and dates seem to refer to what's held in National Library of Australia collection- the details extracted are "Main families covered include CROKER, COOTE, DREW, SWAN and others with some relationship with them."
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Nick Reddan is undertaking a mammoth task of organising and actively contributing to indexing the memorials from the Registry of Deeds Ireland. It lists dates refs and names. They are from the NL in Australia.
But he also has many other resources on his website, including some trees.
Direct link, though you can also access it from his newspaper site
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~registryofdeeds/index.html

Strangely enough, I had a mail from Nick early this morning with an new Newspaper article he has just found, one of my names which links into his lines, he keeps an eye out for me ;) nice man

I should also point out the papers in the NL Australia may not be found in the BL newspaper database. I have cross checked some articles and they don't appear. So definitely worth checking both.
