Hi Kev
Just a thought,
On the 1871 census on Ancestry the next door neighbours are a  John & Louisa FRY
licensed victualler, both also born in Bristol, and about the correct age group. Might be handy having Mum around with another one on the way.....
Hope this helps
Cheers

Hi Jo, that is a great spot, i like the father but the mother is only 47 on census therefore sarah would have been born when she was 13!!.

He could have remarried though, i will check it out.

Thanks

Kev.

Kev,

I'm with Jo, it's definately "Fry" for me. The 'r' in Sollars, formerly and the maiden name of Fry (we think) all look like a small 'v'. The first letter is an 'F' to me because you can see the weight of the pen heavier on the top and right side of letter.

I'd laugh if we were all wrong.   :-[

good luck,

Wendy

It is Fox, in fact if you look at it it is very like George Fox's signature (the famous quaker).  Maybe you are related??

Seriously tho I'm a doctors daughter and I worked for an accountant for 7 years.  The two professions that are the hardest to read.  It looks like Fox to me.

Just thought i would post to say still got nowhere with this. there are two samuel sollars marriages in stroud on ancestry and freebmd with no bride.

Gonna go through all the fry/fox marriages on 1837 and see if i can find one that matches the sam sollars one. They we both in Stroud but even though he was born in Long Ashton his family were from Painswick/sheepscombe so i think Stroud would be the registration district for there.

I have found it, Thank you all for your help.

For those of you that like to know they were correct.

Sarah Ann FRY well done everyone

Went to 1861 census and samuel was unmarried and first child was born 1863. So went on 1837online looked at all sollars lists for between those dates.

The march quarter of 1862 was unreadable but could make out samuel sollars bedminster and 5c 1?9?

So checked that quarter for a sarah ann fry, and BINGO bedminster 5c 1096, has to be her. Now i need to find her folks etc.

Thank you all again.
