Can you date and restore this photo please?

A cabinet card post mid-late 1870's.One of the girls is wearing a ruched skirt popular for girls that decade but probably a hand-me-down from an older sister,2 girls are wearing what appears to be jet necklaces so maybe a death in that family.The teacher is wearing a flat cravat typical of the 70's/80's so I'm sticking with the early 1880's date.

This one got missed. Quite grubby and damaged and with low dpi, it is difficult to clean up without losing detail. Decided that retaining facial detail (even adding a bit!) was probably more important than making it all smooth and pretty. Would like to try a colour restore when I get more time. As a novice at this, I would be very interested to see what more experienced hands can do here.
