I've just been looking at the  BorrowBooks website. It's a great site for people living in Ireland. Even if you do not live in Ireland and think that there may be a useful book containing information about a place or a person in whom you are interested you can look at the catalogue to see which library has it in stock. A friend in Ireland can then have a look at the book on your behalf. The site allows you to search the online catalogues and websites of Irish public libraries, and if you live in Ireland (ie the Republic of Ireland), you may request books, CDs, DVDs etc. via Inter-Library Loan. There is a similar scheme in the UK in which people living in Northern Ireland may participate.

The National Archives at Kew ... reference CO 903/20 relates to "The 'Return of members of Land or National League Convicted of Agrarian Offences c. 1879-1888" Returns for the East Riding of Galway include murder, threatening letters, boycotting, conspiracy, intimidation, unlawful assembly and resisting the sheriff. Interestingly, most of the key prosecution witnesses are London-based policemen.

The West Yorkshire Archives Service holds the surviving estate records of the Marquis of Clanricarde. The Marquis' estates at Woodford and Portumna stretched from Lough Derg to Galway. www.movinghere.org.uk/galleries/histories/irish/origins/clanricarde_1.htm
