Dawn

I've not heard from Hanwell Crem but I did get a reply to an email from Westminster Archives. It didn't tell me much more than I already knew but gave the undertakers name  and the name of the Minister who took the service. He was from St Luke's Church.

I got the email address from the Westminister Archive web site. I initially thought it was an open address for the local council but thought I would give it a go and the archive obviously got it somehow.

Now all I need to find now is some info on Luxborough Home for the Elderly. I don't know if it was a long term Care Home or a hospital for the elderly.

Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it so much.

Margaret  :)

It was me that put you in the direction of Hanwell Crem, but sorry that you've not heard back from the yet!

If you google Luxborough Lodge, which is in or near Baker Street, you should get qute a few leads and possibly some interesting information which  may take you a further step nearer your goal.

Good luck ~ Suzi

Sorry Suzi hope I didn't offend you. Hanwell may reply but it's been over a week since I emailed them. I'll leave it for another week and then I may snailmail them.

I'll try googling Luxborough Lodge. Thank you for your help.

No problem whatsoever!

My enquiry to Hanwell was for death information 1940/1950 and I have since been able to find the grave.   Hope you get as lucky.

Luxborough Lodge was also Marylebone Workhouse, so there's loads of info to find.   However, it was demolished in the 60's and is now a university!!   Westminster City Council may have some info as well.

Thanks I will email them later. I'm sure if it was anything like the workhouses in this area around 1947 they just built around them and now they are all large hospitals.

I can understand the health authority making it into a home though if there wasn't room to expand the building significantly then a Rest/ Care Home would be a more suitable use.
