Hi to all researchers , my gggrandfather william holt married a priscilla isbella poole 1867 basingstoke hampshire I think , before leaving for australia.could be priscilla second marrage. her death cert. had maiden name as yates, cant find any infro about her think she was born shoreham kent abt 1838 if what Iam following in the census is the right track.
the brickwalls get bigger any help would be greatfull.

Sounds like getting the marriage cert would be the first step - that would clarify if it was a second marriage and if that person was nee Yates.

Shoreham is in the Sevenoaks registration district.


William's marriage certificate would be useful in confirming details regarding Priscilla.

Have checked free bmd, no joy for marrage to poole, only LDS record for marrage  poole to holt and birth of priscilla to william and ann yates which appears on priscilla d/cert. There is a grandson john poole living with william and ann in 1871 census. Are there any parish records avail.

Nanny Jan has found both the Holt/Poole marriage and a possible birth for Priscilla in the indexes.

If I were you I would send for these certificates.
£7, can be ordered online from www.gro.gov.uk, make sure you quote the refs that NannyJan has found, then you only need fill in the details on the form marked with a *

You may be best just ordering the marriage cert first, this will confirm if it was a second marriage for her, and if her father had surname Yates. If it does confirm this, then the birth cert may well be her too.

Where are Wm and Ann in 1871 with the Poole grandson? And when and where does ohn Poole say he was born?

It is not all tying up well at all
William and Ann Yates are at RG9 487 93 25, same address, in 1861 with numerous children but not Priscilla.

I cant find a Priscilla Yates or Pool(e) in 1861 at all!

Nor a birth reg for John Pool(e) around that time ...

I think you need that marriage cert in case we are on the wrong track altogether!

At least 1851 (HO107 1613 116 4) has William and Ann with 12 yr old daughter Priscilla amongste their brood.

So where is she, and what on earth is she calling herself in 1861, around the time of young John's birth?

Thanks lizdb, for the quick reply  this is where I hit the brick wall dates and names kind of match but know comfirmation found to back up. It took a while to find her in here she married two more times Queensland 1878 &1892.
