chapel st, wrexham
« on: Tuesday 16 February 10 14:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Just wondering if there is a way of finding out who lived in a house in 1881 and 1891 through the census. My ancestor died at Chapel House, Chapel Street, Wrexham in 1885 but he didnt live there.
The only way I can think of to find out who lived there is, if I could latch on to a name of any of your ancestors living on that street at those times and scour the surrounding pages. Does that sound feasible.
Only got a few ancestry credits left and dont want to waste them searching about aimlessly.

Thanks
Elaine

Thats the problem. My ancestor died there but didnt live there. I thought if I could find out who did live there it would solve the problem of why my ggggrandfather died there. :-\

There is now a doctor's surgery in Chapel Street, Wrexham. The practice was started by Dr Eric Evans and he is mentioned as living there in the 1911 Census.

Maybe it could be that your relative died there as it could have been used for medical purposes in their time.

The surgery is Plas Y Bryn.

Thanks for that. I did wonder if the surgery was up and running at that time.

Susan if you're reading this and you can pull up the chapel street census for 81 or 91, could you give me a name from it so I can read either side of it. Any name but not John jones obviously. ::)

Thanks
Elaine

You should find this on Family Search.
1881 Wales Census. Wrexham Abbot Dist 25
6 Chapel Street.  No Chapel House. ???
James Graham 32 b Edinburgh Scotland
Mary wife 29 b "

I wonder if this might be connected, seeing as William Henry  Bunn was working for a doctor.
Looking at Henry , he was born Wrexham c 1885, so obviously William and Mary were in town at the time that Willam Bunn died.  It looks  likely to me that William Bunn died at WR Parry Jones residence.
It might be worth your while getting the death certificate, it would tell you why he died and who registered the death.

1891 RG12; Piece: 4618; Folio 30; Page 8;
7 Chapel Street.  No Chapel House. ???

Ann E Jones 35 wife b Liverpool
Gladys W Jones 8 dau b Welshpool
Henry E Jones 5 son b Wrexham
Gwendolen G Jones 2 b "
William P Jones 1 b "
Hugh R Jones 1  "
Ernest M Watkins 16 surgeons apprentice
Ethel Hopkins 16 governess
Amelia Dyson 29 cook
Marian Dyson 23 housemaid

Thanks for all the info. Have got the death cert which is what set me wondering why he didnt die where he lived. Must have gone to the doctors and died there poor b****r. He obviously wasn't wasting the docs time though.
Another mystery solved. thanks again
