Turner = Greatbanks marriage Portsea 1787

Lettice Turner married Jacob Greatbanks on 30 April 1787 at Portsea Hampshire so IGI says. Can anyone assist in identifying the parish?

Jacob was serving in the 45 Regiment of Foot mostly in the West Indies between 1789-1792 and may have been on leave for the marriage.

It IGI actually says St Marys Portsea.

No certificates pre 1837.
What you can do, is view the film for yourself at a Latterday Saints History Centre.
You will need to go to your nearest centre

There you can order the film for that parish.  Unfortunately it now costs £10 to view,(used to be £2.30) but they will keep it for 4 weeks.  You may find siblings too.
You can take digital photos of the entry for your records.

My mistake, I should have said 'parish record'.

I once got a record for 1818 from Westminster Archives London -is there a similar place to apply in Hampshire which may be cheaper than the LDS service?

You could try the Hampshire Records office (if they have one)
I know Westminster only charge £4.  I suspect the records office may charge more, if they will do look ups.
Otherwise, what about googling to see if there is a local Family History Society.  They can be very helpful.

Thanks, I'll cast around to a Record Office as you suggest.

There is another good reason for doing so as a son Jacob Greatbanks Jnr was born in WI (subsequent census info) -however his father remarried in February 1793 to a Jemima Ratcliffe in Staffordshire.

This obviously implies that Lettice went to WI -as some wives were allowed to -and either died there or in the UK at the end of Jacob Snr's duty -he was discharged in 1792. I'd like to know which it was and maybe the Record Office could assist on that issue.

Incidentally I've posted a request on the other locations forum asking if anyone knows of any military-related deaths records for the West Indies.
