Hi,

I can see Edward on the Isle of Man censuses 1841 & 1851 born England and 1861 born London, England. All show him born abt.1811. Do you have these? If not I'll transcribe them for you.

I've found him in West Derby in 1871,

1871  RG10/3849  f.127  p.59  West Derby, Lancashire
51 Church Road

Edward COTTLE    Head    M    60    Retired Baker    London
Margaret              Wife    M    60                        Isle of Man
William H        Grandson           6                             "  "
Alfred H               "                 2                             "  "

This could be Edward's death, which would explain why he's not on the 1881 census,

Edward COTTLE    Dec Q 1878    West Derby    8b  221
Age: 69

This looks like Margaret in 1881,

1881 RG11/3636  f.38  p.18  &  f.39  p.19  Toxteth Park, Lancashire
42 Chester Street

James COTTLE      Head    M    37    No ?cc     Isle of Man
Sophia     "            Wife    M   31                  Lancash Liverpool
Alfred H    "            Son         12                   Isle of Man
Charles J               Son           4                   Lancash      "
Percy                    Son          3                        "          "
Eve H                   Daur          1                        "          "
Margaret COTTLE  Mother  W  74                    Isle of Man
Sarah WILLIAMS    Serv    U    18    Dom          Lancash Liverpool
Hannah GRAY        Serv    U    24       "                 "         "

Hopefully this will help someone find a London birth for Edward.

Regards
Daisy

I    will  look  at   marriage  film  on   my   next   visit  to  Museum.  You  may  be   unlucky  &  get  little  additional
info---it  was  all  up  to   how  vicar  recorded  it.  You   could  get  a   photocopy  from  the  film  or apply  to   General
Registry   ---they  would   copy  the   info  onto  a   modern   form  but   it   may  not  be  worth  it.  Wait  &   see.
