Edward FRECKNALL b. Southwell
« on: Sunday 21 February 10 02:08 GMT (UK) »
I have been tracing a mysterious Edward Frecknall. At long last I have found him in all the censuses, but I can't find a baptism for him - and therefore don't know who his parents were. His age jumps around a lot in the censuses...I don't think he knew how old he was.  :) I think the 1861 must just be an error altogether:

1841 age 15 (b. 1822-1826)
1851 age 23 (b. c.1828)
1861 age 46 (b. c.1815)
1871 age 46 (b. c.1825)
1881 age 50 (b. c.1831)
1891 age 60 (b. c.1831)
Died 1899 age 66 (b. c.1833)

On all the censuses he lists his birthplace as Southwell - except for the 1851 where he says NK (not known). He never married so there's no marriage cert to find.

Hello Alexander,

This is all I can come up with……

Baptism - Newark St Mary – 6th May 1824
Edwd – father Edwd HUNT, mother Rachel FRIGNAL - abode Newark - fathers occupation = Bricklayer

No other children showing for a father Edward Hunt with a mother Rachel; no other children for a Rachel Frignal even with alternative spellings & no marriage that I can see for a Rachel Frignal even with alternative spellings.

Sheila.

Edited to add –

I have found these which may be relevant …..

Marriage - Newark St Mary – 19th June 1806
Thomas FRACKNAL & Rachel TAYLOR

Burial – Caunton – 11th January 1828
Rachel FRICKNALL, aged 43 – abode Caunton

Hi Sheila,

I will certainly put that baptism in the "possible" pile. I'm wondering whether it is all the same Rachel Fricknall...but I can't find a death/burial of her first husband Thomas, and he's not in any of the censuses. I have a few baptisms for Thomas & Rachel in Newark, though I think only one or two of the children survived.

It's looking promising...thanks!
