help with emailed photo (private Pic)
« on: Monday 22 February 10 20:55 GMT (UK) »
Please would anyone be able to help with increasing a group picture size of my GG grandfather. It was sent to me via email from a contact today not sure DPI scanned. it covers four generations of my family and there may be still living members therefore I would like help via the private messaging system if possible.

The size of the picture is very small and I would like greater definition of the people in the photo and a larger size if possible.

Thank you for any assistance

Hello, I see 14 have looked and not made a reply,   I don't think you can do that!

I understand you might be able to increase the physical size but then you loose all definition.

I think this is a problem a lot of people have with scanners.   There are so many options.

Can you ask for the photo to be resent?

I believe from the Old Photograph section her that to scan a photo in at 600 dpi (dots per square inch) will provide enough scope to view properly.

My scanner suggests 150dpi to send emails.  It has a professional setting to scan at a higher resolution.

The problem is finding the correct way to do it.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Thank you for the reply Steven,  I am going to try playing with the whole page that was sent and see if I can capture the small photo which is part way down the page. Hope i get some more helpful replies though.

Thank you Teresa

Steven's correct, you can't improve the resolution (dpi) all you can do is make it larger which will result in loss of definition.Only the sender can alter this by as Steven said rescanning at 300-600 dpi.
They would need to alter their email settings as some programmes automatically resize.Give it a try but you probably won't be happy with it.
