Ballybawn Lower 1901 Look-Up - Smyth & Walker
« on: Tuesday 23 February 10 12:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Could someone that has access to the 1901 census for Wicklow please look up the Smyth (maybe Smith) and Walker households for the townland of Ballybawn Lower in the Kilmacanogue parish of the Powerscourt division of Wicklow. I have them for the 1911 census but need to check them on 1901.
I believe the Smyth's are direct ancestors of mine and to prove this I not only need to see who was in their household but who was in the Walker household (because my family in Co Meath probably had the same landlord Alexander Walker). Well I'm not explaining this well, but I believe, Alexander Walker is the link between Meath and Wicklow.
Thanks
Gerry
PS if anyone else has anymore information about either of these families I would be very intersted to hear from them

The National Archives plan to add 1901 census data to their website in the next few months - see : http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/about/futureplans.html

Thanks Shane,
but it would be very useful for me if someone could do the look-up now rather than having to wait!  :)
Hope someone can help me

I'd say most people are going to wait until it goes on line rather than searching through rolls of Microfilm. The 1901 returns are available in the National Archives in Dublin and I understand can also be ordered from some LDS centres outside Ireland.

There is a landmark on the "Irish Ordanace Maps" website for Lower Ballybawn called "Walker's Rock" located on the western side of Old Long Hill Road near the Glebe House.
