Neilke the website The British army 1914-1918  for family historians is a very good website and describes the battle of loos in great detail supplyin maps and a blow by blow account of the battle with casualty stats. It also includes a time line event and the battle troop movements are described very well.

Hi Biggles

This is a real longshot but maybe you can help me out.

My Gr Gr GR Grandfather was stationed in Fermoy Barracks, County Cork Abt 1862 as he married a local girl at the time.  When he left the barracks (army) and moved to Belfast he was listed as a Drill Master Sergeant and I believe he may have been resident at the barracks rather than posted there with a regiment.  i.e. he was the barracks Drill Sergeant.

Is there anyway of finding out what regiment he would have been serving with.  To reach the rank of sergeant he would have had to serve for a few years surely.  His name was James Galbraith

Biggles,

Your address for the RA Museum is a tad out-of-date.  The old Academy has been converted into housing, I believe.

It is now known as FIREPOWER, with its own website.
