Census lookup Perth
« on: Saturday 19 March 05 22:50 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help please with a census lookup in Perth, Scotland, for Joseph Sime, possibly with a son Joseph Sime, born 1850.
Joseph Sime senior was possibly a warder at Perth Prison, so it could be that he lived in the prison.  Son Joseph was married in Poplar in London in 1881, but he's not on the Poplar census as far as I can see for either 1881 or 1891, so he might have been back in Scotland at that time.
I'd be grateful for any help!
Thanks
JB

Thanks a lot.

It's definitely the right family - Joseph was a prison warder!  I'll add it in!

I've been searching for his wife Ada in Essex in torrential rain this week!  Perth is a bit further to go!

Thanks for that.  It'd be great if anyone had some additional info!  We went to Rivenhall and Cressing churchyards.  Edward Tokeley seems to have been non conformist, so Parish records aren't complete for his side of the family.  I suppose I should post this onto the Essex side too!

You might be interested to know that there was a second family at 134 High Street Perth in the 1841 Census, that of my great x3 grandfather John Robertson a spirit dealer and publican. There were some additional families at this address in the 1851 census. Although I haven't looked at the 1861 census my family was still there in 1865 as this was where my great x3 grandmother died.

I was in Perth this morning, partly to check this address. Although many old buildings survive in Perth sadly this is now a modern British Home Stores. However as this is the main shopping street in Perth I am sure there will be Victorian images surviving in local archives - I'll try Perth museum sometime and see what I can find.
