Swiss Olympic link??
« on: Wednesday 24 February 10 18:36 GMT (UK) »
Now here's an odd one (well it is for me!)

I am looking for any int on my supposed great uncle Karl or Carl Bachmann. He lived in Zürich apparently, and married Rose Austin, from Wood Green in London.

He came to the Olympic games in 1948, allegedly as the manager of the Swiss national cycle team.

It is thought that they had two daughters.

I posted a query nearly 10 yrs ago on an early Anpestry board, but got nowhere...

Thought I'd give it a pop on here... ;)

I wonder if the Swiss Olympic Committee could help ?

I've tried a number of searches with Karl or Carl Bachmann and Cycling Sport as well as the 1948 Olympia like Bob did, and various searches in Google with "searches only in Switzerland" but to no avail.

Have you any more information? Sometimes, things that you think aren't important, are just so, but who am I preaching to?  ;D

I guess he was living in Switzerland when he "managed the Swiss team" of which, Ferdinand Kübler (the legendary Swiss cyclist) was part of it.

Don't give up hope - I know a number of amateur cyclists, as old as I am, but not quite as old as Ferdi Kübler, and will ask if they know of him.

Thanks Gill

It's all I have I'm afraid...All that knew of this are gone now. I was rather a surprise to my parents...they were into mid+ 40s when I popped along!

The only tiny thing I do have is a passport for my parents as they were invited over but for some reason didn't go....It's not even stamped! No visas no nothing!

have you tried the inbound passenger lists? unfortunately they are on ancestry which isn't behaving itself at the moment.
