Hello again boleynboy,

I wondered if Edwin Newcomb had had a go at running a pub.  This pub in Loughton Essex has a list of it's publicans, and there's an Edwin Newcomb there in 1894/5.  - http://deadpubs.co.uk/EssexPubs/Loughton/hollbush.shtml

Loughton is only about five miles from Wanstead, and there don't seem too many Edwin Newcombs on the 1891 census, so it could be him?
