census page references

Dear Rootschatters

I've been given the reference for a particular page in the 1851 census but how do I look it up on Ancestry?

Do you mean piece, folio and page numbers?

If so, on the page where you enter the name of the person you're searching for, there are boxes at the bottom to enter your numbers. I think if you add the person's name this narrows it down further.

Hi,

You need to go to the 1851 census and enter the details at the bottom of the page that asks for Name, year etc.  if you know the surname enter that too, or put the surname under keywords.

Dear Ruskie and Mags23

thank you for your super speedy responses - sorry for being a bit dense, but I'm looking at the 1851 search box and don't see anything that the piece, folio & page numbers fit neatly into.

Do I put them into "registration district, sub-registration district, household schedule number and ecclesiastical parish"?

Hi again,

The boxes are just under where you can add Family Members, they ask for Piece:  Folio: Page:, then keywords.  (I've just double-checked this on Ancestry).  If you're still stuck, don't be afraid to come back.

Do you have "advanced search options" activated?

Can you see the boxes where you can enter ther person's names?

Hi

If you are using New Search, you need to switch to Old Search

Dear All

Thanks for your responses - I gave up last night as I thought that I was going mad as I couldn't see the required boxes.

The search boxes on my version of Ancestry list family members, keyword, gender and straight onto nationality.  No options for the census references.  100% sure, not there.

The this morning I woke up wondering if I was using the wrong search page, or are there some options set wrongly - and then Andy mentions a different version of search - how do I go back to the "old" version Andy?

Found it!   Small reference to "old search" in top right hand corner of Ancestry search page, then you have to select a particular census year before the options for folio, page etc actually appear.

Thank you all, think that this one is solved!
