Hi,

Got it thanks....do you think this has any relevance to my John Fox...? and if so why?
How good are the Dublin records for family history research ie parish registers? How far back can you go when you find a decent connection?

cheers angela

Civil records started in 1864 (1845 for non-Catholic Marriage only).

Some Dublin church records  (City and county, RC and CofI) are available at : http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/

Starting dates for church records varies depending on the religion and parish, and the level of detail included in these can vary quite a bit. In general - the earlier records, i.e. pre 1830 or so, tend to be very basic. The oldest Dublin city record on that website that I see is from 1571. Most of the records for the county parishes start quite a bit later than this - i.e. early to mid 1800s
