Have aquired some years ago a crumb & brushset, and etched on the back are the names of smith family and they mention balhearty farm.  It is very interesting and looks very old, does anybody have any info on this family, regards, michelle

It's actually Balhearty Farm, Coalsnaughton, near Tillicoultry.

Hi Starling

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Between 1881 -1901, a Sterling family show as living at Belhearty Farm, headed up by a William Sterling. Can't easily see an entry for it in 1871 or earlier.

Hi Monica

Thanks for that, the smith family must have lived there in the 1900's, I'll keep digging, thanks again :)

Hi Alex

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

I think Michelle's original query stemmed from having an old brush and comb set with the details of a Smith family and reference to the farm.

Hopefully, she will see you message and be in touch here :)

Hi Alex

Thanks for your message.  I am interested in the origins of a crumb and brush set I have, there are names engraved all over the back of it and some self portraits.  An address that keeps appearing is Balhearty farm.  The names of the people are Janet Smith, Agnes Smith, Winnie or Minnie Smith and Walter Bartholomew.  Do you know these names?  I look forward to your reply, in the meantime I will take some pics and post later, regards, Michelle

after speaking to my gran who also lived on balhearty farm, she informs me that when our family bought the farm origianaly it was after the smiths had moved out, i am lead to believe that they leased the farm from the coal board. i believe my family bought the farm around 1940 ish.
if you were able to post some pictures that would be fab!
regards
Alex
