Many many thanks for all the information, it is really helpful. I don't know how you managed to find so much information in so short a time. I have been searching for ages with very little sucess.
The information that I found about the children was Doris 7, Edgard T 4 and Edith 2.
I can't work out why the marriage cert is dated 1913.
Once again my thanks and appreciation for all your help

Link to the 1911 census

My mistake in reversing the ages for Edgar and Edith.  You are right.

I haven't found Edith on records as yet.

I would imagine that the marriage is 1913 because before that they lived common-law.  They emigrated in 1904 as Caffrey.

Edith was the next entry after her brother Edgar's marriage.  They both married in the same church on the same day - April 16, 1927.  Edith Caffery of 171 Ropey St. Montreal was below legal age but married with parental consent.  She married Lawrence Stanley Ryan of 205 Manufacturers St. Montreal s/o Daniel Ryan and Annabella sutherland.

One last bit of information.  Edith Marion d/o Henry Caffery and Sarah Gregory  was born in Arnprior, County of Renfrew, Ontario 24 Jan 1909 and baptized 26 April 1917 at Saint Luke Anglican in Montreal.  Her father was on active service at the time.

I've just joined this site and found quite a few postings that relate to my granddad, Henry Caffery or Caffrey.  I am his granddaughter and live in England.  I have quite a bit of information as I've been tracing my family history since 1976!  Please feel free to get in touch....

Sarah Gregory was born in Marlborough, Wiltshire, England in 1869. In 1894 in Pimlico London she gave birth to William Gregory. No father's name appears on birth cert. William was brought up by Sarah's brother Thomas and his wife Mary Jane.
Sarah then disappears, no entry for her on 1901 census.
Family myth is that the father was named either Caffrey or McCaffrey and he was possibly a Canadian.  After much searching I found a marriage cert for Sarah and Henry Caffrey in Carleton County Ottawa on 25 may 1913. Both shown as born in England. Parents names for Sarah confirm that this is the Sarah I am looking for.
Canadian census for 1911 (2yrs before marriage date) shows 5 people named Caffrey living in Carleton County. Henry, Sarah and 3 children aged 7,4 and 2. This must be the same Sarah.
How can I find out: when she left England, did she go directly to Canada and which ship did she travel on?
Can anyone help?  Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
Henry is my Granddad and was born in England.  He left England to join another brother who was living in Canada and then signed up with the CEF and returned to England, stationed at Dover Castle for a while.  If you would like futher information, I have loads as I've been doing the family history since 1976.

Hi,

I have just started to research my family tree, and it appears that Sarah Gregory is a common ancestor. Thomas Gregory (her brother) is my Great-Great Grandfather.

I was just wondering how you knew that William was brought up by Thomas Gregory? Is there any kind of adoption certificate? I have him listed as a son of Thomas Gregory on the 1911 census in Manningford Abbots, nr Pewsey.

Thanks,

Laura
