William Brockway 1806 Shaftesbury
« on: Saturday 27 February 10 15:40 GMT (UK) »
Need help finding William after his birth & Christining.

Father was Philip, Mother: Mansel

He was christened at St Peters in 1806

Cannot find any record past that point.
Believe he is my GGrandfather who went to the states in 1823

Records are scarce in that period.
Thank you
Brockway

This site doesn't list William as a child of Philip and Mansell:
http://www.english-roots.com/_downloads/Brockway%20Family%20History%20pdf.pdf

What evidence do you have that he was?

The St Peters baptismal registers list a William (bap 1806) as son of William and Elizabeth:
http://www.opcdorset.org/ShaftesburyFiles/St.Peter/ShastonStPBaps1775-1812.htm

These may be the William Brockway and Elizabeth Chiveral who married in 1803 (but they may not!).

If your William was baptised in 1806 and left for the USA in 1823, there may not be any other records listing him.

I did not kno which William was mine because I thought this was one that was unaccounted for after birth. sort of put it out there and see where it went.

My first info was that he was born in 1808 in Yorkshire.
That did'nt work either.
Thank you for this info, will pursue it.

!!

If you tell us what you know for certain about your William, we might be able to point you in the right direction.

Does he appear on any censuses, for instance? Or do you have a marriage certificte for him?

There is a public tree on ancestry that gives several generations of this family, including all the people you have mentioned. I suggest you contact the owner, who lives in Florida, and ask for details, including the evidence (such as the naturalisation papers of 1847) because he does list William's parents as the ones you first mentioned.

If you need more explanation/details, let me know.
