Alexander Irwin where is he buried?
« on: Monday 01 March 10 14:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Alexander Irwin died in 1958 his father Alexander died in 1938 and his mother Adeline Mills died in 1944. His aunt Ellem M Mills died in 1941.

These lived in Killanally, Carrigaline, Cork.  They were CoI.

Does anyone know what church or graveyard these would be buried in?

Thanks
Ann Marie

Hi Anne Marie,

If you could give us exact dates we could look up the Cork Examiner archives at the Library and maybe come up with an answer for you.

Curate would make him a parish priest or vicar in this case as they were COI

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curate

However Mallow town is a good distance from Carrigaline.

In the 1911 Census Alexander Senior is down as Clerk in Holy Orders and born in Co.Armagh

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Cork/Carrigaline/Killanally/384337/

Not sure do you have the marriage

Alexander Irwin
Registration District: Rathdown
Date: Jul-Sep 1880
Volume 2 Page 725

Adeline Mills
Registration District: Rathdown
Date: Jul-Sep 1880
Volume 2 Page 725

I live in Carrigaline so can check COI graveyard there if you wish.

Hi Ann Marie,

There are two web sites where you might be able to make contact with some one who may be able to help you-

For the Carrigaline query -
www.carrigalineunion.org you could request a look up as you have the approximate dates of death.

For the Mallow search
www.mallow.cloyne.anglican.org  if you go into parishes section there is a subsection for ancient parishes which gives great detail.
Also contact details available.

As already mentioned in an earlier reply these areas are not very near to each other.  From Cork City Mallow is about 20 miles and Carrigaline is about 12 miles in different directions.

Good luck

Mary

Thanks for this guys..

I can clear this up a little..

The marriage cert for Alexander Snr and Adeline Mills in 1880 in Booterstown in Dublin states his profession as Curate of Mallow.

His father is Alexander Stapler Irwin and his profession is Clerk in Holy Orders.

I am thinking Alexander Snr worked as a Curate of Mallow in 1880 but in later years worked as a Clerk in the Holy Orders (Carriagline) just like his father.

I am nearly confusing myself here :-)

I will check these websites guys and thank you so much...

Castlemcauliffe if you wouldn't mind checking the CoI cemetery i would most definitely appreciate this.

Thanking you
Ann Marie
