HUGHES Thomas B 1821 LLANRHYDDLAD
« on: Monday 01 March 10 20:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm looking for HUGHES Thomas. I think he is borned around 1821 in LLANRHYDDLAD, Anglesey. He has had a daughter HUGHES Mary borned around 1864 who married HIGHAM Joseph born in 1865 in Hulcote, Northamptonshire. They have lived together after their weeding around 1867 in Anglesey.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP Pascal

Hi Pascal,

There is a Thomas Hughes (age 61) showing on the 1881 census from Llanrhyddlad who was a Labourer at the Brewery living at Wern Gethin, Llanfair P G, Anglesey - see Familysearch.org - is this the family?

With him are his wife Margret (age 60 fron Cwyfan) and two sons and two daughters all unmarried -

Thomas age 33 - born Llanfair P G - Agricultural Labourer
Hugh age 24 - ditto - Slatemaker
Ruth age 22 - ditto - Dressmaker
Mary - age 18 - ditto - Dressmaker

"Ancestry" is down at the moment so can't track the family back for you but I have found that Mary married Joseph Higham at Towcester, Northamptonshire in Sept Qtr 1887 (Reference 3b/25) .

Hope this is of some help.

Alan

Thank you Alan for your answer. I think that you have given the right information concerning HUGHES Thomas.

I've found the census 1901 ref : RG13/5276 Anglesey with this information :

- HUGHES Thomas Head 81 years, Wid., Wern Gethin, schedule 81.
Joseph HIGHAM is his son in law 35 years, his wife Mary 38 years.

on census 1841 Anglesey llanrhyddlad, ref HO 107/1361/13 :
- HUGHES Thomas 20 years, place "4 TREFOES ?" parents John 50 years and Elisabeth 50 years.

Do you think it could be the same personn as I'm thinking ?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. PASCAL

Hi Pascal,

Thomas's parents could be John and Elizabeth at this time it's difficult to say - I suspect you need to find Thomas and Margaret's marriage certificate and this will show who their fathers were.

I found the family in 1871 (RG10/5725) where Thomas is shown as aged 57 (incorrectly transcribed) and Margaret age 50 with children Thomas 20, Hugh 14, Ruth age 11 (shown as Rutt),  Anne age 11, and Mary age 9.

Also in 1861 (RG9/4347) Thomas 41, Margaret 41, Thomas 13, John 11, William 10, Esther 8, Hugh 5, Ruth 3, Ann Jane 1.

In 1851 there is a possible family (Reference 107/2517) at Tyn Yr Arth of Thomas 31, Margaret 30, Margaret 10, Elizabeth 7, Megal (a son - maybe Michael?) 5, Thomas 3, John 1 but the census shows them all as being born in Llanfair P G not Llanrhylldad.

I think I would be inclined to get the birth certificate for one of the children to find out Margaret's maiden name and then try to trace the marriage.

If the 1851 family is the right one Thomas and Margaret seem to have had about 11 childen!

Hi Allan, thanks again for your information because they are right. I've had the confirmation about HUGHES Thomas and Margret his wife. They have had 11 children, born in LLANFAIR PG, has you said... Some of them died very young.

I think I've received information about HUGHES parents : it could be HUGHES John and Elisabeth born both around 1791, may be in LLANRHYDDLAD or on a place called "4 TREFOES" ?

I don't know about Margret's name, may be she is born in CWYFAN / ABERFFRAW.

HUGHES Thomas was a labourer at the brewery living at Wern Gethin, LLANFAIR PG ?

So, HUGHES Mary was a dressmaker, born in 1863 or 1864 in LLANFAIR PG ?
and married HIGHAM Joseph in 09/1887 in Towcester, Northamptonshire.

I've traced the HIGHAM until 1798 in the TOWCESTER FAMILY web site.

These are for the news. If you could confirm some of them or find some more... Thanks really for your help. PASCAL
