Annibal/Barnes...Where'd they go??
« on: Tuesday 02 March 10 20:53 GMT (UK) »
In the 1891 census I found the woman I suspect is my great grandmother(Sarah Barnes b.1876) working as a domestic servant in Lenton in William Annibal's (b.1839) home.  There is also a son, Albert Annibal b.1875, that I suspect might be my great grandfather.  I found them both with their families in 1881 but I can't find either of them in the 1901 census.
I know that in 1893, Sarah was not married as I have my grandfather's birth certificate.  He was born Albert Barnes.
I realize that Sarah might have married and changed her name but where did Albert Annibal go?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks
Jen

Hi Jen
I don't know if this will be of any use but there were some messages about the Annibal family on this forum back in October last year.

Thank you Suz!
I hadn't found his family in 1901!  I just now found his younger sister Annie and brother Gilbert as a domestic servants in 1901, but not Albert nor his older William.
I think all the children had middle names.  Albert was an E. but I haven't come across his full name.
Interesting that in 1891 the family had domestic servants but by 1901 three of the children were hired out as domestic servants.  Maybe it's not unusual, I don't know how it worked then.
Thanks again.
Jen

Hi Jen…. :)

A little bit more to add to Suz’s finds…….

1901 – RG13/ 3215/ 14/ Page 19 – 69, Arthur Street, St Alkmund, Derbyshire
ALBERT ED ANNABLE – Marr, aged 28, Varnish Manufacture – Worker, born Derby
EDITH ANNABLE – Marr, aged 29 – born Derby
Emily Dodger, aged 17, servant born Staffordshire

By 1911 the couple are back in Nottingham and say they are born in Nottingham; although it seems they didn’t marry until SeptQ 1908 – Albert Edward Annibal & Edith Munns

Wow
How'd you figure out when they were married?
I'd like to figure out if Sarah Barnes got married too!
Did it mention any children for Albert and Edith?
Thank you so much for filling in the gap!
Jen
