GREENWAY poss Veryan - help?
« on: Tuesday 02 March 10 22:44 GMT (UK) »
Hello ...  I have a George Greenway born circa 1785. I know he married Susanna PASCOE in 1812.

I am REALLY REALLY stuck getting any further back with this one.

I did sort fo find a lead for (possibly) his Father - another GEORGE GREENWAY and a marriage to a Jane LOBB - but can't confirm this.

Is there any way for finding a baptism enrty for the one I know about - or any suggestions would be a massive help to me ... :o

Cheers (and frusatrated!) ???  :'(

Have you taken his age from the 1841 census? If so, the ages were rounded down in that one. The 1851 gives his age as 70, although his burial in 1853 gives 67

Sorry, can't see a baptism in any of the online sources. IGI coverage for Veryan has a gap before 1783, so you need the films/fiche of the parish records.  If Kris doesn't have the microfiche, can you get access to the films either in the record office in Truro or ordered at your nearest LDS centre?  There's an online parish clerk as well who may be able to help.

Thank you for your reply.  I am assuming he was from Veryan, I don't know if it makes much of a difference, but there are other areas mentioned through the years - such as Ruan Lanihorn too?

I'll try the OPC .. it's difficult for me to get to Truro ...

he gives Veryan as his place of birth in 1851. He's of Ruan Lanihorne at the time of his marriage, but it took all of 3 weeks to become of a parish. No sign of his baptism in that parish anyway. Ignore my comment about a gap, I misread the dates on the batches.

The Kew marriage looks tempting, but it's a distance from St. Kew to Veryan - on this map St Kew is at G7, and Veryan F3

But there does appear to be a baptism between the 2 places in IGI batch P016511 for St Austell
George bp 5/6/1787 son of George & Jane Greenway
also a sister Ann bp 10/10/1789

Me again ....

I have found a baptism enrty for a George Greenway bap 21 October 1759 in St Breward - now that's a fair distance from Veryan/Ruan/Trevisky etc isn't it?

There are also 2 baptism for Jane LOBB in St Austell, but these are 1741 & 1775.  The latter is too late - for the marraige in 1784.  The first is possible, but they'd both be quite late in years at that point (for that time) - I don't know how many children they had - possibly 2 if this is the right Jane Lobb ...

This is so annoying, as I can follow the Susanna Pascoe line quite well.

Few too many Jane Lobbs to be sure which one might be yours.

I wonder .. my tree - when amending the date of birth for George (Married to Jane Lobb) to 1759 (as this matched the only appropriate George Greenway Year of Birth) it was in St Breward.  There is an existing line for this family - but they are all based in St Breward .... so I think this may be a red herring, and I need to look at maybe St Austell?  ???

Thing is, this family moved to Bristol eventually, so I don't know if distance is too much of an issue .....  ::)

Thanks you for the death date ... I saw that too, so to have a second opinion is great - it's now been added to my tree  :D
