Mary Anne Arnot/t
« on: Wednesday 03 March 10 20:15 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for info on Mary Anne Arnot/t b. 20 July 1825 Abercorn, Linlithgow.  She is my great grandmother but I have no knowledge of her parents or any brothers or sisters.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Cien

You have quite a precise date for Mary Ann's birth - what is the source?

What do you have on her? Who did she marry, dates, children etc.?

The source for her birth date is the 1901 Canada census.  She was married to William Jeffrey in May 1848 in Ratho Parish, Edinburgh County, Midlothian.  They had a son Thomas b. Aug. 8 1848.  I don't know if they had other children.  Thomas emigrated to Canada in 1871.  Mary's husband died in 1882 at Burn House, Jock's Lodge, South Leith and she then emigrated to Canada to be with Thomas in 1883.  She died in 1905 in Galt, Ontario.
I would like to find out if she had other children and who her parents were basically but any info would be helpful.

This looks to be the family in 1851:

William Jeffrey 25, Blacksmith Jour b. Musselburgh, Midlothian
Mary Jeffrey 24, b. Kirkliston, West Lothian
Thomas Jeffrey 2 b. Kirkliston, West Lothian

Address: 4 xxx? Linlithgow West Lothian

Not sure if there were any (living) siblings for Thomas, this looks a possible entry for 1861:

William Jeffrey 36, Blacksmith
Mary Jeffrey 35, b. Abercorn, Linlith
Thomas Jeffrey 12 b. Cramond, Linlith

Address: Echline, Dalmenie West Lothian

I can't see any children for William and Mary after the start of official registration in Scotland from 1855 showing on IGI at www.familysearch.org

Thank you Monica.  I suspected there might not be other children as she left Scotland to be with Thomas.  Now I need to find out who her parents were.  I am stalled at that point.
Thanks for your prompt reply and your kind assistance,
