FARRELLs of Westmeath, possibly Multyfarnham
« on: Friday 05 March 10 11:05 GMT (UK) »
I was wondering if anyone has any information on the Farrell family I believe thay were from Multyfarnham, Westmeath. This is where they apparantly ran a Butchers shop, so not sure if they were originaly from here, but were from westmeath.

Lawerence Farrel I beleive they ran the Butchers shop in Multyfarnham
Bridget Farrell (wife)
Alice Farrell (daughter) she married Patrick Melia of Mullingar in about 1920-1930

Thank you

this looks like the marriage from the Irish Civil BMD Index on familysearch :

 Name: Alice Farrell
 Registration district: Mullingar
 Record type: Marriage
quarter and year: Jan - Mar 1922
 Volume: 3 / Page: 171

 Name: Patrick Melia
 [same index details]

see details in the Ireland Resources section for notes on ordering certs etc.

have you searched the 1911 Irish Census for the families ?

Thanks Shane

I have tried searching a few sites, but cant really find anything, the nearest I got was a

LAURENCE FARRELL MARRIED BRIGID FINNAN 1850'S

But that was all I got, my father said that Alice's mother was Bridget(spelling could be different) and they had a few children one being Alice.

Thanks for the marriage info that will help!

Civil registration started in 1864, so it's probably best to work your way back though any available census and civil records first to establish all the details you can, before looking into church records.

There's a Lawerence Farrell, butcher on the 1911 census in Mullingar (about 13km from Multyfarnham)... a bit young to be Alice's father, but could be connected.

see : Nash butchers, Mullingar

edit: this looks like it may be Alice and her family Farrell family, Tyrrellspass
