Missing Great Grandmother
« on: Friday 05 March 10 16:11 GMT (UK) »
Hello   ;D

After a few years away (and a brainfull of forgotton 'how to search') I am back on the trail of my great grandmother.

She was born in Hull in 1880 (Sarah Rosa Naomi Osburn)

Married to Charles Nicholson in 1905 with whom she had 4 children

Around 1911 she left Chas and the kids, to where, who knows   ::)

In 1914 my grandmother was born to Sarah Nicholson & Henry Thomas

In 1915 Sarah marries Burton Lamb under the guise of Naomi Nicholson (Hull) and nontheless bigamously as Charles didnt die until the end of WW1

Then the trail runs cold - does anyone have ANY idea's of where or how I can trace Sarah further?

Thanks in advance
Jo

How old was Burton when he married her?

There are the following deaths for Burton Lambs - if one is likely to be him you could get the cert and see if the informant was Sarah Naomi as widow - if so at least you know where she was then. If not then she couls have died or left him for someone else!

1941 Durham SE  10a 91 age 85
1947 Upper Agrigg Yorkshire 21 436  age 58

also Doncaster 1916 age 0 - maybe a child of the marriage?
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

census information is Crown Copyright from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Yes, thank you - I duplicated the post because I didnt get a response but thank you to liz and I will be checking Burton's age.

The other posts are years old and my new once quite clearly states that I am back on the trail - I really didnt think that 3/4 year old posts would be looked at my such an active forum hence the new one!! (Oh, and your thrid link has nothing to do with the relative I am looking for)

Thanks again

I have more info (although not much) if anyone could help further with this - not sure if this is better here or on the east Yorkshire board but here goes:

Sarah Rosa Naomi Nicholson nee Osburn was bigomously married to Burton Lamb on 1/12/1915 under the guise of Naomi Nicholson (widowed).

Their address at the time was 13a Humber Street Hull and they were married at the registry office.

Burton Lamb was 30 so born circa 1885 and Sarah [Naomi] had knocked a few years off her age pretending to be 31 (her DOB was 31/12/1880) when she would actually be close to 35!

Anyhoo, Burton's father was again Burton Lamb (deceased) who was an Electrical Engineer and Burton Jr was a Lance Corporal in the KO (I think) YLJ ??? (Coal Miner)

The witnessess are harder to read and mean nothing to me but I think are Anne Horton & Elsie Kirkus  ??? ???

ANY info that could be found would be fantastic
Thanks in advance
Jo

Hiya

Do you think this would be better posted in the East Yorkshire look ups?

If so, please could a mod move?

Thanks in advance

So, going back to my suggestion earlier, the 1947 death looks like the Burton that she 'married' - so his death cert might give a clue as to whether she was on the scene then or not.
