1861 for the Gould family does seem to confirm that he married sisters which at the time was illegal. However it did not stop members of my family from doing it and my 3x great grandfather did it in a very small village.

The help offered on here astounds me !!! Thank you so much -  really appreciate the details on Joseph & Elizabeth Groom & their family - especially as it takes the GROOMs beyond Sherrington  - & to Thames Ditton, it seems !! Shall have to see if I can find any baptism records fro Joseph Groom , in that area. Does anyone know of any websites that may have any information that might help me check for baptism records?

Also - really interested to learn about the Gould family - it certainly does appear that both of Thomas Grooms wives were in fact sisters. Another family line to begin investigating  :)

Now I shall have to try to find out about Henry Gould & his wife - hopefully there will be records around to help me.

Thank you again for all your help  - once again, iff anything of interest should pop up, I'd be glad to hear from any of you.

Cheers!

Hi James

Just a thought?  I have a Tom Groom married to Sarah McElwee in my family.  Last heard of, they lived in Haslemere, Surrey.

Does this information mean anything to you?

Regards

Barbara

Sorry for the delay in replying , Barbara - at the moment Tom & Sarah don't mean anything to me - but I shall definitely keep them on file ... do you have roughish dates for the couple?
Thanks
James

James

Thank you for your reply.

Thomas Groom was married to Sarah KELLY, who was born in Londonderry in 1888.
They lived at some time in Haslemere, Surrey and had a Son, Thomas born around 1919.
That is all that I know.
Good luck with your searches. B.
