It mightn't be Burfa rather than Scurfra? There are a couple of references to Burfa in Powys/ Radnorshire/Breconshire.

just a thought

Hi,
There is a James Andrew Thomas  aged 4 on the 1881 census, Rg 11/5463  60/13
Address is given as  Dukes Town Sgwrfa, Llangunider, Crickhowell, Brecknock.
There is a King William Public House in Sgwrfa Rg11 /5436 63/19
Also in 1871 Rg10/5584  62/18 there appears to be a road/area called Qurg (i think image reads King) William in Llangundir with a few houses.
Best wishes
Cathy

His grandmother Mary was my great great grandmother. She and her  second Husband ran the King William in 1871.

She is listed under her married name Sheddick on 1881 census Rg 11/5463  62/18
a few doors down the road from her son.

Heddwch,
if you google "dukestown tredegar" and click on the map returned (for Dukestown,Blaenau Gwent!) you will see "Scwrfa".
The 1881 Census for James Andrew Thomas has "Civil Parish = Llangunider; Town/Village = Dukestown; Urban Sanitary District = Tredegar". On the next page/image following Jame's entry is the "Belle Vue Inn". There is still a "Belle Vue Inn" in "Scwrfa Road"
