Just discovered
« on: Thursday 11 March 10 02:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, I've been plodding away at my family history for a couple of years now.  How come I haven't discovered RootsChat.com ???  I am researching heaps but concentrating on HIBBETT/ITT/IT at present.  I think I have pushed down a brick wall but, apart from travelling from Oz to UK I am unable to confirm my suppositions.  Unfortunately I have to sign off now but I will be back, as from a brief scan of this site, it looks like there are some who can do look ups for free on parish records etc.  This would save me a trip to the UK :o.  I do have quite a lot of info on this family name but having trouble finding where my 2nd G.Grandfather fits into someones family.  I'll be back later - barring any more interruptions.
Cheers Dawn

Welcome to rootschat Dawn! This is a wonderful site and you're right, there are many people willing and happy to help out. Rootschat has members worldwide - lots of us live in Australia.  ;)

The best way forward for you would be to post your query on the appropriate board - Australia if your research is there, or the county board if your family hails from the UK. Give as much information as you can about the person - dates, places, occupations etc.

There are some useful tips and resources at the top of each county page, and it's worth playing around and getting to know the site. If you click on "Forum" in the bar at the top of the page, under the heading "beginners" you'll find some good tips.

If you need help with how to use rootschat, just ask.

Hi Dawn,
You say you are researching 'heaps' - is that 'heaps of people' or 'the Heap surname' ?
I think you meant a lot of people, however as I know there are Heaps in Australia I thought it better to check !
Dot
Heap - Holmfirth WRY
Rhodes-Flockton WRY & NE Cheshire
Ridgway- NE Cheshire & Lancahire
Roebuck - Upperthong WRY
Wild - NECheshire
Riley - NE Cheshire & Derbyshire

WOW,
Thank you everyone for the information and replies.  Think I've opened a can of worms but finding time to count them is the hard part.  I am going to sort out my posting over the weekend so that I supply as much info as possible.  I've learnt that if you leave bits out you finish up with tons of questions and advice that you already knew.  Hopefully I might be able to help someone else from the info I have obtained over the past couple of years.
To Mumsie2131, yes, I mean lots of people.  Sorry.  You really have to watch the wording don't you?  Personally I have never met a HEAP but I know heaps. ;D ;)
I am going to change my Subject to HIBBETT from now on - guess that's the best thing to do :-\
Love these little faces........
Back next week if I still have any online time left for this month.
Thanks again everybody and I look forward to a 'happy' time with RootsChat.
