Could this be them in 1861?

WRIGHT, William
Head - Married      age   56   1805    Coal Miner b Denton Manchester
WRIGHT, Sarah
Wife   - Married      age 65   1796 b Eccles, Lancashire
WRIGHT, George
Son   Unmarried   age   16   1845    Scholar  b Denton
WRIGHT, David
Son      age   14   1847    Coal? b Denton
WRIGHT, Mary
Daughter      age   13   1848    Card Room In A Cotton Mill  b Denton

RG09/2990/155/3

Address:
Houghton Green, Haughton   Lancashire

If so, then looks like here are William and Sarah in 1871

WRIGHT, William
Head      age   65   1806   Labourer at Coalpit  b Haughton
WRIGHT, Sarah
Wife      age   79   1792   b Eccles

Address:
Houghton Green, Haughton   Lancashire

There are a few   entries for Mary Wright living away from home  so impossible to say if it is her or not

Here is a possibility for Mary...although she is a cotton tenter rather than card room hand so I am a little dubious... but she is born Haughton Green.

Living as lodger with family of Jacob and Elizabeth Redfern.

Address: Tib Street, Haughton

WRIGHT, Mary unmarried
Lodger      age   22   1849      b Haughton Green

RG10/4079/74/25

I thought maybe she would be lodging with one of her siblings and that maybe Elizabeth was her sister but this looks like the marriage for Jacob and Elizabeth so they don't appear to be related.

Marriages Dec 1854
Redfern    Jacob        Ashton    8d   773
Swindell    Elizabeth        Ashton    8d   773

You could try tracking down all her siblings to see if she is living with any of them :)

Nancy just missed the 1871 census.

Births Sep 1871
Wright  Nancy     Stockport  8a 29

If you cross check www.cheshirebmd.org.uk you will see that mother's maiden name for this Nancy WRIGHT is shown as WILSON.

Looks like another Nancy was around in the Stockport District then.

But even so, given her age in the 1881 census, I dont think she made the 1871  :)

I agree that she wouldn't be on the 1871.

How about this one:

1872 Nancy WRIGHT Ashton 8d 469 - cheshirebmd shows birth as Denton.

Ashton would fit very well with the 1871 census for william and sarah and for the Mary I mentioned earlier.
