Holloway Prison

Hi all

Can anyone help me,I recently found out that my Grandmother was sent to Holloway  for 4 months sometime between 1939-1942 (close as I can get)and was wondering how I can confirm this.

At this time most local papers had a court correspondant.  Try your local paper.

You could contact Holloway, they may be able to pass you onto some archivist/historian.

Also London Metropolitan Archives.

If you know where she lived that would be where the local newspaper is most likely to have carried an item on her conviction etc.

My Grandmother lived in Peterborough,so will go and try and find if her conviction was noted in the local paper at the time.Looks like a long task.

I wonder why if she lived in Peterborough, she may have been sent to Holloway?

Have you checked the National Archives sites for both Scotland and England? They sometimes contain information on criminal cases:
